Fall is apple season in Ontario. Enjoy your own homemade Toffee caramel candy and chocolate apples.

Caramel Apple with Nuts Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 6 apples
  • 225 g chopped hazelnuts, walnuts or pecans
  • 190 g sugar
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 ½ tablespoons butter
  • 225g heavy cream
  • 6 popsicle sticks

Directions:

1. Toast the nuts in a pan without oil fry until golden brown. Allow to cool.
2. Wash and dry the apples. Remove the stalks and insert a wooden stick into each apple
2. Pour sugar, honey, butter and heavy cream into a saucepan.
3. Heat until for about 12 minutes until melted into a soft and creamy caramel. Do not let boil
4. Place each apple (one by one) first into the caramel sauce until covered then roll immediately in the nuts and place on baking paper
Repeat until all apples are covered with caramel and nuts
5. place apples on a baking sheet until cold and firm.

Timesaver Variation

Make a quick caramel sauce with one package of caramels and 2 Tbl milk.
Place caramels and milk in a microwave- proof dish and microwave for 2 minutes. Stir once.
Allow to cool slightly.
